BATHINDA: Congress leader and Punjabi singer Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu was killed in an attack near village Jawaharke in district Mansa on Sunday evening.
He was taken to civil hospital Mansa where he was declared dead.
“Three people were brought to the hospital, out of which Sidhu Moose Wala was dead. After giving primary treatment, the two injured have been referred to a higher institute for further treatment,” said Dr Ranjeet Rai, Civil Surgeon of Mansa Hospital.
It is learnt a bullet hit Moose Wala while he was in his Mahindra Thar, which he was driving. Sidhu Moose Wala had left his village Moosa with his companions and was going to meet some known person.
Moose Wala , 28, was among the 424 persons whose security was withdrawn by Punjab Police on Saturday. It is learnt that Moose Wala was to meet chief minister Bhagwant Mann pertaining to the security issue.
It is learnt that some unknown persons fired indiscriminately at the Mahindra Thar vehicle. All three persons sustained injuries in the firing.
Mansa Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gaurav Toora confirmed that Sidhu Moose Wala has died in the firing attack. He said the police is on the lookout for the attackers.
Sidhu Moose Wala had millions of followers. He had contested the February 20 assembly elections on a Congress ticket from Mansa assembly constituency and had lost by over 63,000 votes.
A score of persons raised slogans against the Punjab government after the attack was made on Moose Wala .
